Main things to See (we give descriptions only on places we visited)

Things to See  Visited Brief Description Recommend (10 is best 1 is don't bother)
Beirut Y A city of contrast, new modern building built right next to old shot up buildings.  Beirut has a great feel to incorporating western and middle eastern culture.  The boardwalk is beautiful and happening in the evening.  The main attractions are the Hamra area, the American University, and Sursock Musuem. 8
Tripoli Y There are two sections to the city, the old city with the souqs and markets and the new city where the restaurants and modern cafes are.  The main attractions are Taynal Mosque, St-Gilles Citadel,  Lion Tower.  Outside the city there are some great hiking possibilities in the Kadisha Valley.  7
Byblos Y This ancient city lies 40 km north of Beirut.  The main attraction are the ancient ruins, the wax musuem, and local souqs. There is also a nearby beach. 8
Baalbek Y These are the best Roman Ruins we have seen and one of the best preserved.   The temple complex is one of the largest in the world. Very impressive and one of the must sees in Lebanon. 9
Beiteddine Y The summer palace for the ruler.  Beautiful palace in the hills not far from Beirut. 7

Feeling and Opinions on Lebanon

Lebanon is a beautiful country with a lot of diversity to offer.   It also has a great mixture of western and middle eastern cultures.  There are also a lot of things to do, from hiking, lying on the beach, spectacular historical site, and even skiing in the winter.  It was our favorite country in the Middle East.
